Well, to those solitary followers of my personal blog: It's time to put this old horse back in the race. I've neglected this blog for quite some time, and I feel deep down that I can no longer avoid it with good conscience. I keep telling myself (and others) that I've been dying to find a place to write down all of my ideas, and just to write freely and creatively in general... forgetting that I have this little station from which to work.
My return to Stonehill has been mostly a positive, character-building experience. My friends and I are working hard to bring attention to political issues on campus, and we're even trying to bring prominent voices to campus to speak on our behalf. After drowning in liberal dogma day in, day, out, I have to admit that it gets to be a little stale after awhile. If you take so much as a small interest in politics, you receive the same stale arguments about current events. Tea Party folks are tea-baggers, extremist, and wrong. Occupy Wallstreet people on the other hand is some great, eye-opening movement. Huzzah! Draw your sword and let us ride together against those capitalist, greedy, top 1% fascist pigs!
It's really very stupid, and selfish to say that you want the government to steal someone else's wealth and property in the name of material equality for all. If you believe in that, then you have no respect for property rights or for the theories of classical liberalism (Locke, Hamilton, Jefferson) that built this country. For being a spontaneous group of idealistic activists, there are a lot of union workers (with their children) and college students running around. For being in support of anarchy, they're also really keen on the idea of REALLY Big Government. How else would they propose to steal all that money and power from 'the top 1%'? I suppose they would all be perfectly happy with shooting everyone; that's what it boils down to in the end if they're all so serious about 'the revolution'.
My satire goes beyond all of the counter arguments to this wonderful display of generational stupidity. The 'rich' for example, are so evil and greedy that they pay 35 to 50%+ of their income to the government. They're also so evil and selfish that they employ hundreds, if not thousands of people. They provide needful services, products, and a ladder of wealth that one can climb to improve their lot in life. It's not perfect, and not every one of them is good... but I prefer that to socialism and communism.
I digress, and I apologize. See, I may have started a small war on the campus' email system because I adamantly opposed a nutso-liberal student (and their allies) when they promoted walking out of classes (that their parents pay for) to push solidarity for this movement. I just hope that there are enough people like me to oppose these truly selfish, ignorant people who want to suck off of the system and then complain about it.
I'll add more tomorrow when I'm a little more awake and cognizant.
